Opinion: Songs That White Girls Like WAY Too Much [RHHH Article]

Opinion: Songs That White Girls Like WAY Too Much
Written By: Billy Ferguson

-- Do you ever find yourself hanging with a white girl (or a group of white girls) in the car, and a certain song comes on the radio that they can’t shut up about, or can’t stop singing along to? Or do you ever log on to Facebook, only to find your news feed full of statuses from white girls where they’re all quoting the exact same line from the same goddamn song? If you can relate, or have had similar experiences, then you’re probably just as pissed off about it as I am. I’m cool with whatever someone’s taste in music is, but when they go out-of-their-mind-crazy, and won’t shut up about songs that don’t deserve nearly the amount of attention, I start to have a problem. Here’s a few examples to describe what I mean:

White girls go out of their friggin minds for anything that comes from Eminem. Dude could record himself breathing into a mic, and girls would fall over in excitement. But when Em dropped “Love The Way You Lie”, things went to a whole nuther level. I have a distinct memory of one particular incident that I witnessed a couple months after the song got released. I was sitting in class, and some white chick started playing the song through the speakers of her ipod touch. So we all sorta turned and looked at her. I was thinking that when we all turned around, she would get embarrassed and turn that shit off. Instead, just about every girl in the class started singing along for the entire 4 and a half minutes. True story. The first time that I ever heard “Love The Way You Lie,” I liked it! I thought it was a pretty solid track. But after hearing it exploited beyond recognition over and over again, it’s ruined.

Next is a song which I don’t even understand what makes it appealing: Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Know.” I guess chicks think that they’re thuggin or whatever when they bump this shit. For one thing, has anybody noticed that Busta Rhymes has the exact same flow in every single song nowadays? Do people not realize that it’s the same shit every time? Not to mention the fact that his lyrics have zero substance when you actually listen to what he’s saying. So why is it that white girls talk about his verse as if it got em wet? Oh, and thank god y’all finally stopped yelling out “Leggo!” Of course, y’all managed to replace it with “YOLO!” but at least you moved on…

And last but certainly not least is a song which revolutionized obsession from white girls. I didn’t even think it was possible to be as crazy about this a song as girls were (and many still are) about this thing. Yes, I’m talking about “How To Love” by Lil Wayne. Guess what: Lil Wayne can’t sing, and the whole scarf-wearing-hipster-white-dude-sitting-in-an-upscale-cafĂ©-with-a-guitar persona doesn’t fit him, but that’s what I’m forced to imagine every time I hear this thing playing. And contrary to popular belief, the lyrics on this track are not deep…at all. A 12 year old could have written this shit. “You see a lot of crooks and crooks are still crooked.” No shit, Sherlock. With it being so painstakingly obvious that the lyrics on here are shallow as hell, why was there an epidemic of girls putting lines from the song in their tweets, or as their FB status, back when the song dropped?

There are many more songs that I could go on about, but I think you get the point. I’m tired of white chicks going absolutely out of their minds for songs that don’t deserve nearly as much attention as they get. No song deserves the amount of attention that white chicks give these tracks. And if you’re mad that I’m talking about “white girls” only, well, it’s a fact that it’s only white girls going crazy about these songs – there shouldn’t be a connection between race or gender, but that’s just how it is, or at least that’s what I’ve seen.

I feel you bro, and that's exactly who these songs are aimed at. So the white girls can buy their music.

I'm a white girl and i feel kinda offended because i don't listen to those stupid songs u hear on the radio nowadays. but i kinda understand where you're comming from because your article describes the behaviour of most of my friends (unfortunately). Listening to, what i call, real hiphop is like a passion that i cant share with anyone irl because they only care about a hot beat and a catchy hook.

Srry for bad english,
a 17yr old girl from holland
